Doctor's Portal: Silverlight 5 Site
Overview:

Archetype created a Doctor’s Portal application that allows clinicians to view and interact with patient data in a completely new way. The application provides a detailed, layered and animated 3D model of the patient, as well as features like patient records, alerts, and calendaring. Users can view each part of the body – skin, musculature, bones and vital organs – all within the browser. The Silverlight Doctor’s Portal provides a compelling experience that highlights several new Silverlight 5 3D features such as support for Shader Model 2.0, 3D Geometry, and layering of 2D and 3D graphics.

As part of the Microsoft Silverlight Firestarter Conference keynote address, Archetype’s Chief Technical Officer, Luigi Rosso, and Chief Creative Officer, Guido Rosso, presented the Doctor’s Portal application, showcasing the new Silverlight 5 low-level 3D features. Archetype is proud to be a part of the next release of Silverlight and the Firestarter event.

Features:
Silverlight 5

Silverlight 5

Silverlight 5 brings advanced performance, low-level 3D, and 2D/3D graphic layering to the browser. Archetype utilized these Silverlight 5 enhancements to create 2D graphics and controls that trigger 3D model animation and effects within the Doctor’s Portal.

Low Level 3d

Low-Level 3D APIs

Archetype utilized the low-level 3D APIs in Silverlight 5 to create advanced layering of high resolution models and normal mapping. Archetype also created animations of the patient’s heart by blending and animating model vertices.

Camera Animation

Camera Movement and Animation

Having low-level 3D enabled Archetype to animate cameras from position to position in managed code through animating target look at position, position of camera, and orbit rotations. Animating in managed code and binding it to vertex shader in Silverlight 5 is also showcased.

Textures and Bump Maps

Textures, Bump Mapping, and Shader 2.0 Integration

Archetype created a unique client for downloading textures and 3d models progressively for the Doctor’s Portal. Archetype’s implementation of Silverlight 5’s Shader 2.0 model, normal bump mapping, and custom vertex shaders all helped to create a unique and compelling 2D and 3D experience inside a single unified Silverlight application.
